The Works of Mercy

Mercy is a form of love. He, whose heart is hardened, doesn’t show love, thus breaking the main commandment of the Gospel: " But whoso hath this world's good, - John the Apostle writes, - and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?" (1 John 3, 17).

Another manifestation of lack of mercy today is a claimed lack of time. They say that time is money but for Christians time is love. In pursuit of career, well-being or knowledge people neglect their families at the time when they are most needed by their wives, husbands, children and parents.

As Christians, we must practise works of mercy toward our neighbour, for they reveal best our attitude to other people.

What use is it for a man to say that he has faith, if he does nothing? Will such a faith give him salvation? Before His Judgment Seat the mercy of God will only be given to those who have shown mercy.
